Surviving Holiday Season on Keto

Fall marks the beginning of the holiday season; whether you are looking forward to your favorite pumpkin spice flavor snacks or indulging on thanksgiving, the Fall isn’t the ideal season for your Keto diet. Staying on track can be done without sacrificing all of the holiday festivities. In this article, we will cover some tips that will help you survive the Fall.

Plan Ahead

Planning will be your best friend during the holiday season. From family get-togethers, Friendsgiving, and ugly sweater parties, they will be a plethora of social outings. Planning can work in two ways.

  1. Telling the Party Host of your dietary restrictions beforehand

Most of the time, when you are invited to a gathering, the Host will ask if you have any type of food allergies. You can take this opportunity to let the Host know of some of your restrictions. You can take it a step further by suggesting a dish that would work for you. Depending on your relationship with the Host, they may allow you to bring your Keto-friendly dish. Worst case scenario, you can pack some of Genius Gourmet Keto Shakes, Bars and Chips and snack on those whenever you are feeling hungry. This way, you are adhering to the constraints of Keto but still enjoying the social outing.

  1. Consider eating before you arrive at the party.

If you feel uncomfortable telling the Host about your Keto restrictions, you can eat before you get there. Make a Keto-friendly meal that will satisfy your cravings through the duration of the gathering. No one likes snacking on crackers and fruits all night.

Safe Foods

If planning isn’t your thing, you can also look for keto-friendly foods at the party. For example, meat, cheese, and veggie trays are always there as finger foods. You’ll also have some great options for the main course, dishes like:

Turkey

Green Bean Casseroles

Deviled eggs

Fresh Green Beans

Sautéed Brussels Sprouts With Pancetta

Cheese Stuffed Mushrooms

Honey Baked Ham

Baked Salmon

Pick a Carb

It’s a given that you’ll be tempted by carbs somehow, and that is perfectly acceptable. If you want to eat foods with carbs, you have to be strategic about your choice. If there is a particular thing, you’ve been craving to eat within the recommended portion size. Maybe you’re thinking about a cocktail instead. That’s also acceptable, but you must include that in your total carb intake.

Avoid beer and sugary mixed drinks; hard liquor is carb-free

Don’t Stress

The holidays are a time to enjoy family and friends; if you decide that you want a slice of pie, there’s no harm in that. Taking a break from Keto for a holiday weekend will not derail your progress. If you decide that you want to maintain the diet 100%, just make sure you have a game plan.
