Traveling on Keto
Staying on a diet while traveling can be difficult. To be successful on any type of diet, you need to be consistent and have a routine. Those components go out of the window when you are on vacation. Traveling offers you the opportunity to relax, indulge in some of your guilty pleasures, and enjoy some of the local cuisines.
Traveling while on a diet can be problematic if you aren’t strategic about your approach. This article will help you stick to your keto diet while on vacation.

Planning
Preparation is key to sticking to your diet, so while traveling, you should plan. Before you leave, you can do some research on restaurants and bars in the city. A quick look at the menu can give you an idea of the foods you can eat. Keto is a popular diet, so it won’t be challenging to find low-carb options on the menu.

If you have no intentions of working out on vacation, that’s okay too. Pick one of your three meals throughout the day to enjoy some local cuisine that may not be keto-friendly. This way, two out of the three meals you consume on your vacation will be keto-friendly, and you won’t derail your progress. Remember, you’re on vacation. The goal is not to eliminate your diet but manage it while still enjoying your trip.
Go Grocery Shopping
Going to the grocery store while on vacation is ideal if you stay in a villa or an Airbnb. Both lodging options are usually equipped with a kitchen, which is excellent news for your diet. Depending on your trip, you can visit a local grocery store and purchase some of your favorite keto-friendly foods. You can stock up on low carb, high-fat snacks and eat them during the trip.

Cooking shouldn’t take away from your experience in a new place so we recommend getting food that can be prepared relatively quickly. This way, you’re not missing out on your vacation by cooking.
Here are a few items you can get in the store
- Tuna or Chicken Salad
- Cheese
- Hummus
- Yogurt
- Fruits
If shopping isn’t your thing, consider purchasing some Genius Gourmet Keto snacks before the trip. We have a great selection of chips, bars, gums, and more.
Intermittent Fasting
Intermittent fasting on vacation will ensure that you stay in ketosis. Pick a time that works with your schedule where you can fast. If you are going to be active during the day, consider eating two large meals and fasting for 8 to 12 hours. We recommend eating from 10 am to 2 pm and fasting the rest of the day. Fasting eliminates you having to eat unhealthy snacks usually offered on the flights.

Another way you can utilize intermediate fasting during your trip is to catch a flight that is either early in the morning or late at night. That way, your body isn’t deprived of foods during your regular food consumption hours.

Traveling doesn’t have to derail you’re your ketogenic diet. By preparing for your vacation, you can ensure that you stay on track.
